1TWENTY2 Ministries

Born from a desire to reach outside the church walls with the really good news of Jesus’ love, 1Twenty2 Ministries began as A Gathering of Friends in 2010 reaching out to a group of folks that were uncomfortable in a traditional church setting. We offered Bible study, worship, and fellowship to people we knew who desired these things but for many reasons hadn’t before had the opportunity.

Our founding members sensed a calling in their lives to go beyond the way we had typically practiced our faith. And, since we didn’t know much else, we learned pretty quickly that we would have to rely on God’s voice and direction in order to move forward. But as we have been faithful, He has been even more so!

We incorporated as a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization shortly thereafter in order to be good stewards of the opportunity God had presented to us. Meeting at first at Waxahachie Family Dentistry, we have since moved our “headquarters” to 401 5th Street in Waxahachie. This is the former dental office of Dr. Bobby Haney, who is President of the Board of Directors and Bible study teacher.

Since our beginning, the Holy Spirit has expanded our ministry to include a small benevolence program mostly helping our members. Many of them are unemployed or under-employed and some are also homeless. Bobby’s wife, Penny, cooks and serves breakfast every Sunday morning at 9AM preceding the worship and study time.

We are also able to provide some help with food, toiletries, bath linens, Bibles, and some clothing. In the future we hope to expand this ministry as our leadership and resources are provided in God’s timing. We are currently beginning to work with the Waxahachie Police Department as they encounter persons who may need these items.

Our vision includes facilitating a Men’s Mentoring program which will help fulfill our mission to “give a hand up as well as a hand out.” Some of our leadership are currently seeking training in how to accomplish this as we learn to become the hands and feet of Jesus.
We always welcome new friends. We are casual and are learning to practice the mandate found in James 1:22 – “Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says.” We would love to love you!
