Grossed out your kids lately?

In All Articles, CULTURE, Family by Shannon Daniel

My husband and I have been married for almost 23 years and have made it our mission to gross our kids out on a daily bases. My day is not complete until I hear an “Oh my gosh mom and dad, that’s so gross!” from at least one of our precious miracles! My husband and I don’t have a problem with public displays of affection as long as it’s not too excessive. I mean, even our pastor has told us “Hey you do have a license you know!’

The bible even addresses the bond of marriage and intimacy that couples share. Have you ever read the Song of Songs also known as the Song of Solomon in the Old Testament? The book describes a celebration of love between a man and a woman. The two lovers praise each other and yearn for each other. It has been claimed that the described love story is an allegory of the intensity of God’s love for humankind, or of the intensity of divine love within the human heart. God created us to love because He loved us first. Christians are described as the bride of Christ (Eph 5: 25-27). The church is comprised of those who have trusted in Jesus Christ as their personal Savior and have received eternal life. Christ, the Bridegroom, has sacrificially and lovingly chosen the church to be His bride. The love that our Heavenly Father has for us and we have for him should be a public thing. We should not be ashamed that we love God (Romans 1:6) therefore husbands and wives should not be embarrassed to show their love for one another. We as Christians learn from God’s ultimate example of love by the sacrifice of His son Jesus Christ for our sins. As parents we should show an example of love to our children as well. We show them that we love them in sacrificial ways but what about teaching them how to show love to their future spouse through an earthly example?

We have learned that the bible gives us explicit instructions on how to love our husbands and wives publically. We should teach our children through example as God teaches all of us. What does all of this really mean? We should gross out our children on a daily bases just as God instructed us! So, go ahead dad, grab up mom, give her a big ol’ kiss and pat her on the butt in front of those kids and what them cover their eyes and run away!
